Organized by Christian Liebert

On Thursday December 13 the CSS Online Masters 2001 begins. It will be conducted in a special tournament room on the Fritz7 Playchess server. Most participants are using the Fritz7 interface, which allows the engines to play automatically online. The tournament will go on until the end of January or the first week of February. News, results and games will be constantly published in the CSS Online Masters room of the Playchess server and on a special tournament site set up by CSS. There will be discussion on the course of the tournament in the CSS forum.

TOURNAMENT RULES

There are 18 participants in three groups of six programs which were entered by users. A maximum of two programs by any single author were allowed. Eight programs will qualify from the first round, three each from groups 1 and 2, and two from the third group, which is weaker than the other two (no Junior, Fritz or Tiger). Each group will play a double round robin, which means that each program will play ten games. In the next round there will be two groups of four programs each. Once again they will play a double round robin, i.e. six games for each program. The first and second of each group play four games in the semifinals against each other. The winners play the finals and the losers for place 3.
